RN - Emergency Dept. The Emergency Department Registered Nurse performs assessments appropriate to the patient's clinical presentation/diagnosis, care setting, age, development level, and cultural and religious orientation in a timely manner. Performs assessments completely and accurately including, but not limited to, physical (i.e. assessment for pain, skin breakdown, risk for falls), psychological (i.e. cognitive and communicative skills or development), social status and other patient needs. Essential Job Duties: Identifies and prioritizes the need for further assessment based on the patient's clinical presentation/diagnosis, care setting, desire for care and responses to any previous care. Initiates discharge planning for each patient upon admission as appropriate. Demonstrates understanding of COBRA/EMTALA regulations. Is able to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring and identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately. Demonstrates accurate assignment of triage categories using Emergency Severity Index and completes Triage Competencies before working in that position. Maintains current knowledge of medications and their current administration based on age of patient and their clinical condition. Is able to assist emergency room physician with diagnosis and interventional procedures, i.e., central lines, closed reductions, advanced airway management. Is competent to monitor the patient undergoing procedural sedation. Is competent to perform ACLS and PALS algorithms and protocols. Maintains current competencies on all Emergency Department equipment including defibrillator, pacer, infusion pumps, etc. |
