JOB TITLE:Speciality Nurse LOCATION: Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center DEPARTMENT:Hematology/Oncology WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full time
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing patient assessment, patient/family teaching and triage as well as direct patient care including chemotherapy, biologic therapy and other therapeutic infusions and order entry. Provides clinical support to the provider, patient and their family to assist in the treatment of the patient's condition. Completes order entry as directed in EPIC and Beacon. Rotates through treatment room to provide direct patient care. Follows up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing of same in medical record to ensure continuity and quality of care. Promotes a clean environment. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
Works under the general direction of the Operations Manager for professional and daily operational issues.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrated competence in written, oral, and electronic communication skills (interpersonal/communication and technological effectiveness competencies).
Demonstrated computer literacy.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and instill confidence and facilitate communication with patients.
Demonstrated proven ability to work in a team environment. Must be able to work and communicate effectively with diverse medical personnel including physicians, technicians and nurses.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Current Pennsylvania RN license required.
BSN preferred.
Must be BLS certified.
Knowledge of chemotherapy/biotherapy and research protocols preferred.
Chemotherapy course completion required or to be completed upon hire.
Oncology Nursing certification (OCN) required; preferred at hire or must obtain within 2 years.
Minimum of two years prior oncology experience preferred or at least two years of med/surg experience required.
Computer experience is essential. EPIC experience preferred. Beacon experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
