JOB DESCRIPTION: Flex Ambulatory Infusion Nurse LOCATION: Geisinger Medial Center DEPARTMENT: Ambulatory Infusion Center WORK SCHEDULE: Days/ Evenings WORK TYPE: Flex
JOB SUMMARY: Provides infusion nursing services in an ambulatory clinic center (AIC) to patients as prescribed by their physician. Infusion services are provided in a manner consistent with the standards of a professional registered nurse, in compliance with the accrediting regulatory bodies and within the professional standards and guidelines. Meets the required qualifications and is able to assess, plan and teach patients from a broad age range and diverse backgrounds about the infusion, the therapy and the equipment required to provide infusion services. Is knowledgeable regarding the problems associated with vascular access devices and the therapies infused in the AIC. Utilizes appropriate problem solving skills. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its effort to provide quality patient care in a cost effective manner, resulting in optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction. Participates in public relations activities as requested. Collaborates with physicians regarding patients and therapies that are appropriate in an AIC. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in assigned area.
Reports directly to the AIC Lead Nurse. Works under the general supervision of the AIC Operations Manager and Ambulatory Infusion Center Supervising Physician (or designee) where the Infusion Center is located. Collaborates with referring provider teams and pharmacists as needed.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates proven venipuncture skills. Demonstrates experience with care and maintenance of all venous access devices including peripheral, midline, and central catheters.
Demonstrates ability to calculate infusion rates, appropriate dosing for adult and pediatric patients, and PCA programming changes.
Demonstrates strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, is flexible, performs calmly under pressure, has strong problem solving skills and a working knowledge of the principals of managed care case management.
Demonstrates knowledge of Intravenous Nurses Society intravenous therapy guidelines.
Demonstrates commitment and understanding of the "team" environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Graduate of an accredited nursing program and licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required.
Minimum three years nursing experience with a minimum of one year experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Previous IV skills/competency preferred.
PICC certification preferred.
Attainment of VACC (Vascular Access Certification Corporation) or CRNI (Certified Registered Nurse Infusion) Certification within 2 years preferred.
Completion of GHS pharmacology exam required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically done in a clinic setting. This position involves potential exposure to hazardous materials. Frequently stands, walks, sits, climbs stairs, and lifts/carries up to 25 lbs.
