The Cardiac Cath Lab at Duke University Hospital is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time. Currently awarded the 2019 Platinum Performance Achievement Award for Chest Pain - MI Registry. High volume cardiac catheterization center performing cardiac, peripheral vascular, and structural heart procedures. CVIS Clinical ladder available for professional growth. A rotating schedule allows employees a four-day weekend once per month. Work hours Monday - Friday 0730-1800. Flexible call opportunities. Occ SummaryAssists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheralvascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Ca th/EP Lab specializingin the care of patients undergoing PTCA, stent pla cement, IABP placementand EP devices and ablations. With increased exper ience providesresource and mentoring to new staff while exhibiting enhan cedtechnicalskills. Work PerformedAssist the physici anduring invasive and noninvasive procedures to treatcardiac and periphe ral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias.Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care. Communicatescontinuously with the physicia nabout the patient's condition.May perform any of the following: Basicd iagnostic catheterizationprocedureson adult patients with known and sus pected congenital andacquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease.Ba sicinterventionalprocedures which may include any of the following:PTCA , stent prep andplacement, IABP placement and operation. Basic EP procedure may includeany of the following; EP studies, implantation of pacema ker, ICD, BIVICD and ablations.Procedural requirements: Room preparation and breakdown to includestocking rooms, daily QC checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computersetup, and room cleanup. Prepare sterile procedu re tray and patientsterile field appropriately for specified procedure t ype.Evaluate the status of the patient during the procedure; provideage andgender specific care, prep access site according to lab standardpract ice, and perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulseoximetry se tup for hemodynamic monitoring.Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data in the electronichealth record and enter into hemodynamic and X-ray systems.Operates all physiologic and radiographic equipment sa fety andcorrectly. Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures allappropri ate needs of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team are met. Observeoccupation aland radiation safety regulations (wearing badges, leadaprons, goggles , gloves).Educate the patient of procedure expectations before, during a nd afterthe procedure including post-procedural limitations and restrict ions.Participates in performance improvement and continuous qualityimpro vement activities. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesDo cumented competency in interpretation of EKGDemonstrates mastery ofvarie d procedures within the procedural area(either invasive or EP Focus)Abil ity to communication with patients, physicians, healthcare team. Level Characteristics Minimum Qualifications EducationA graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology or respiratory therapy) ExperienceNo experience required Degrees, Licensures, CertificationsRCIS, RCES, ARRT - RTR, ARRT - Radiography (R), ARRT - Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) , ARRT - Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV), ARRT - Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), or IBHRE certification within 36 months of employment. Basic Life Support Certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required within 6 months of employment (Adult Cath, Adult EP, & Hybrid OR only). Duke employees in the CVIS job classification as of January 1, 2016 who were not eligible for certification will be exempt from the certification requirements of the CVIS I.
