Texas Oncology is looking for an Outpatient Transplant Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team!This position will support the Sammons Cancer Center location in Dallas, TX . This position will work for the BMT Unit that is open 365 days per year. This position can work four 10 hour shifts or five 8 hour shifts. What does the Outpatient Transplant Registered Nurse (RN) do? The Registered Nurse, under minimal supervision, provides nursing care from initial patient contact through high dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell rescue to follow-up care post stem cell rescue. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities:
Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.
Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
Administers hematopoietic stem cells when an outpatient transplant is scheduled.
Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management
Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices.
Facilitates clinical operations and patient care.
Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
Monitors patients during bone marrow biopsies.
Performs sterile dressing changes and starting/maintaining peripheral IV access in addition to central lines.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Outpatient Transplant Registered Nurse (RN) will have the following background and experience:
Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
Minimum 2 years of BMT experience.
Current RN state license with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
