The position is located within the Radiation Oncology Services at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and associated with the Wilmington VA Medical Center, and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) located in Burlington County CBOC, Camden VA Outpatient Clinic, Veterans Health Clinic at Gloucester County, and Victor J. Saracini VA Outpatient Clinic (Montgomery). The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Applicants must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. [NOTE: See exception in subparagraph (b) below for candidates who are enrolled in an MSN Bridge Program.] The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), an accrediting arm of the National League for Nursing located at 61 Broadway, 33rd Floor, New York, New York 10006, or call (800) 669-1656 extension 153. The NLNAC accredits all levels of nursing programs. EXCEPTION (b): The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in an MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN but receive an MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a bachelor's degree is not awarded. EXCEPTION (c): In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Registration: Must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists. On and after [March 17, 2009], registered nurses appointed or otherwise moving into these assignments must meet and maintain the following additional qualifications. This includes employees appointed before [March 17, 2009], who obtain such qualifications on or after [March 17, 2009]. Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.] Clinical Nurse Specialists. A clinical nurse specialist must possess a Master's degree from an academic program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE [and maintain full and current certification as a clinical nurse specialist from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.] GRADE DETERMINATIONS: In addition to the Basic Requirements, the following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical demands include repetitive body movements including the following: frequent reaching, standing, walking, and lifting of equipment and/or patients to provide patient care. This position requires extension of the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction including above or below shoulder level, during the provision of patient care, including retrieval of needed equipment, supplies and to make contact with the patient. This position requires Moderate lifting, 15-44 lbs.; light lifting, under 15 lbs.; moderate carrying, 15-44 lbs.; reaching above shoulders; use of fingers; both hands required; walking 6-8 hours; standing 6-8 hours; both legs required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted) min 15/20 one ear and mental and emotional stability required. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). ["VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards The Radiation Oncology CRNP responsibilities include managing patients and working in conjunction and collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist to provide specialty care services in the infusion/chemotherapy clinic and the specialty clinic. The Radiation Oncologist will provide supervision, guidance and training as needed. The CRNP works closely with the Radiation Oncologist, nursing, and clinical staff to provide comprehensive and continuous patient centered care through active collaboration, communication and coordination of VA and community-based services. The Radiation Oncology CRNP will act as the clinic coordinator and will be responsible for assisting the Radiation Oncologist in ensuring the clinic runs efficiently. Evaluation and care of patients in the outpatient clinic. Duties include, but are not limited to: Performing examination and developing treatment and follow-up plans. Responsible for completing patient encounters, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines. The Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner will participate in discharge planning and interdisciplinary patient care plan for inpatients. Incumbent is an independent care practitioner who is highly skilled in the management of patient's acute care needs and coordinates subspecialty evaluation and treatment. Incumbent will also be responsible for the evaluation, care, and disposition of patients, ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, determining need for hospitalization, or transferring the patient to another facility. Incumbent should be experience at management of medical conditions requiring hospitalization and interested in engaging in ongoing process improvement with respect to measures of quality care, patient safety, patient satisfaction, patient and family education, utilization management, and cost control. Students should submit the certificate of professional nurse practitioner to sit for NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of Nurse Practitioner transcripts.
